How to use this idea
What is it?
Similar to an announcement bar, corner banners are another way to alert your visitors to new information, or direct them to click through to a specific page.
As you’re not restricted to a single line of text like in an announcement bar, corner banners can also include imagery or iconography to grab your users’ attention.
By placing a corner banner in the bottom left or bottom right of your user’s browser, they direct the user’s focus without being as annoying as a full page popup.
They’re typically run for a specified length of time, for example during a special offer period or in the run up to an event or webinar.
Why this works
Corner banners help draw attention to time-sensitive information and offers without updating your whole page layout.
Things to consider
Allow users to dismiss corner banners, and remember this with a cookie, so that users don’t have to close it every time they come back to your site. You might want to avoid using this tactic if you’ve already got other popups and banners in place, to avoid overwhelming the user.
To have more of an impact, you may want to have the corner banner slide in as the user starts scrolling down the page, rather than having it displayed on entry.
