How to use this idea
What is it?
Adding nice thumbnails (open graph) images is a great way to encourage people to click through to your site - but creating a unique image for every page on your site can take ages.
Instead of doing this manually, try dynamically generating open graph images based on your page content: tools like Bannerbear and OpenGraph.xyz can automatically generate open graph images for every page on your site, based on the title tag or other content you specify.
Why this works
Adding open graph data to your site ensures that it shows up nicely when someone shares a link, maximising the chance that someone will click through.
A generic open graph image for all pages on your site is better than nothing, but if each page has its own custom open graph image, people will have a better idea of what to expect when they click, and may be more likely to visit your site.
Things to consider
Small site? If you only have a handful of pages, it may be easier to design a simple template and swap out the content manually for each open graph image.
Working with a large site with tonnes of resources or blog posts? Consider using a tool to dynamically generate the open graph images for you. If you need to update the look and feel later on, you only have to update it once and the tool will generate the images for you in bulk.
